Amish Teachers gift

Welcome Rachel, it’s great to have you with us today.

Rachel – Thank you, Margaret, it’s my pleasure.

As you know I like to provide a different setting for my interviews. Something that takes the author away from the usual question and answer format. So while sitting on my lovely couch we shall be transported to my desert island where I shall ask you five questions. Are you happy with that Rachel?

Rachel – Sounds great.

Wonderful. My first question is..

What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?

Rachel – I’d wish for two luxuries – a soft mattress (although maybe I could create one from items on the island) and some writing supplies. I’d prefer my computer, but unless I could somehow rig up a battery to generate electricity, I suppose I’d only be able to use it for several hours. So pens and paper would be ideal. Actually, I might even solve that problem when I indulge in my passion (see below).

How interesting Rachel, I love the idea of you making your own mattress. It sounds like you are going to make the island work for you. Maybe you could invent a solar battery from all that sun power? But if not we will give you plenty of paper and pens to be creative with.

I wonder what creature you are going to choose?

You are given one wish, but there is a clause which means you can only ask to be an animal. What creature would you like to be?

Rachel – A jaguar. They’re so sleek and beautiful. I love looking at the way they move and slink and pounce. Being wrapped in a soft fur coat would be luxurious. I’d also have claws to help me dig and protect myself, although I’d prefer to be a vegetarian jaguar. I’m not sure I could kill or eat other animals. Because I love being surrounded by trees, I’d like taking shelter in the forest. And stretching out on a branch, sleeping during the day and prowling at night appeals to my night-owl tendencies. It would be super cool to be out in the jungle at night under the moonlight, powerful and unafraid.

A vegetarian jaguar now that’s a fascinating idea. I am loving your imagery of the Jaguar and you have such a terrific way of describing this animal and its habits.

While out on a walk inhaling the ambience of the island..

You find a piece of paper with a pencil left behind from the previous author who was shipwrecked here, what encouraging message would you leave for the next castaway?

Karen – All things work together for good, for them that love God. You’re here for a purpose, so look for the positives. If you have a good attitude, even being stranded on a desert island can be an enjoyable experience. Think of all the time you can devote to prayer, planning, and daydreaming. Take time to think up stories, imagine big dreams, and send love to all God’s creatures.

I think I’d also include instructions for finding food and shelter as well as anything else I’d learned about survival on the island to make the next person’s stay a little easier.

You have a wonderful positive attitude Rachel. I really like that. You’re making my island sound idyllic for a spiritual and personal retreat.

I am enjoying this interview..

You are allowed to invite another person to stay with you on the desert island, which of your characters would you choose and why?

Rachel – I would choose Josiah, the hero of THE AMISH TEACHER’S GIFT, because he’s resourceful and has carpenter skills. I’m sure he’d be able to figure out how to build us a shelter and get food. Of course, the fact that he’s handsome would be a plus.

It sounds like you have the island cracked Rachel. With your enthusiasm and Josiah’s skills, you will get a huge amount out of its challenges.

I can’t believe this is the last question..

I know you like writing but do you have another passion?

Rachel – Yes, I do. I love art. I could indulge in my passion on the desert island. I’d draw in the sand with sticks, create sandcastles and mud sculptures, and make collages from leaves, twigs, and stones. I imagine I could find ways to create dyes from plants, and by chipping bark from fallen trees, I could make paper to write on. I’d also have plenty of time to paint and sculpt because I’d have no deadlines or other responsibilities. This is starting to sound like so much fun, I might never want to leave. When can I sign up to go?

Haha, shame it is only fictional Rachel, but what a fabulous idea to make your own paper and dye. I think you have been my most creative desert island inhabitant. This has been such fun.

Thank you, Rachel, for sharing your inspiration with us today.  It has been a delight sharing my couch with you. I hope you have a successful blog tour.

Rachel – Thank you so much for having me. I enjoyed being on your desert island and hope I can visit again. Many blessings to you and all your followers.

Sadly that is all we have time for so let’s give Rachel a huge round of applause.

As usual, there is a GIVEAWAY at the end of this post from the author – please enter for a chance to win. And if you have enjoyed the I love Authors Interview 24 post a comment too. It’s good to get feedback.

I love Authors Interview 24 was brought to you by Margaret Kazmierczak, blogger, author and generally nice person. Oh and modest too! Hope to see you soon.

Margaret Kazmierczak interviews Joan Deneve author of Loving Brock

Today on I love Authors Interview 23 I would like to welcome Joan Deneve, author of Loving Brock which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from May 3rd – 16th. You can purchase the book here.

Loving Brock

It’s a pleasure to have you sitting on my couch today Joan. Let’s show Joan a warm greeting.

Meet Mimi Milan an interview by Margaret Kazmierczak

JoanThank you. I’m thrilled to be here.

I know there are lots of interviewers out there that follow a certain format, however, I like to be unique in my questions and eek out little-known gems from my authors. I hope you are happy with that?

Joan – It sounds fun.

Let’s begin then.

Now I want you to imagine that we are on a desert island. This means we are going back to basics.

Joan, you can choose..

Who would you like to be marooned on the island with and why?

JoanHmm. Probably Bear Grylls because he’d figure out a way to make sure we survive. (But I would hope he wouldn’t make me drink my own pee!)

Oh, I agree that is gross. However, I suppose you would do anything to survive even if it meant drinking your own pee to stop yourself from getting dehydrated.  He would be a fascinating companion though!

Bear Grylls gives you a day off from foraging for food..

What book would you crave to read (you already have the bible, so please pick another book)?

JoanTo borrow a line from Winnie the Pooh (A.A. Milne), I’d need a “sustaining book, one that would comfort a wedged bear in great tightness…” Or in my case, some kind of motivational, never-give-up kind of book.

I love Winnie the Pooh, A.A Milne is so inspirational in his writing.  I don’t think you could go wrong with The Poetry of A.A Milne.

From A.A. Milne, Now We Are Six

So wherever I am, there’s always Pooh,
There’s always Pooh and Me.
“What would I do?” I said to Pooh,
“If it wasn’t for you,” and Pooh said: “True,
It isn’t much fun for One, but Two
Can stick together,” says Pooh, says he.
“That’s how it is,” says Pooh.

There seems to be a theme – Bear Grylls and Winnie the Pooh! I wonder what you will choose now..

You are given one wish, but there is a clause which means you can only ask to be an animal. What creature would you like to be?

JoanThe intelligent, playful, and lovable dolphin!

I love them too Joan, good choice.

It’s about to get a bit crowded with Bear, Winnie and now..

You are allowed to invite another person to stay with you on the desert island, which of your characters would you choose and why?

JoanDefinitely Brock Whitfield. Brock is a man of faith and basically, God’s pet who gets his prayers answered in a mighty way. A good person to have around.

He sounds amazing Joan, I can see why you would favour him on the Island with you. He sounds like he a rock. I think my readers would enjoy reading about him in your book.

Sadly this is my last question..

To leave the island, you have to describe your main character in five words, can you tell me what they would be?

JoanBrock Whitfield: Compassionate, Resolute, Humble, Selfless, Stellar.

What an accolade for your main character. Well, folks, it sounds like you’ll have to buy a copy of Loving Brock to find out more about this man of God.

Time to wrap up..

Thank you, Joan, for taking the time to share your desert island musings with us. It’s been a delight to have you on my couch for I love Authors Interview and being such a good sport.  I hope you have a successful blog tour.

JoanThank you! This has been fun and thought-provoking!

The pleasure is all mine Joan, I have enjoyed our time together enormously.

Raise the roof readers for Joan Deneve.

I love Authors Interview 23 is a fun and unique way to get to know established and new writers.

Don’t forget Joan has a great GIVEAWAY at the end of this post, please enter for a chance to win.

Margaret Kazmierczak interviews Barbara Bras author of She Who Knows No Fear

I love Authors Interview 22

untitled-1

Welcome to I love Authors Interview 22. Today we meet Barbara Bras, author of She Who Knows No Fear, which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from 26th April – 9 May. Let’s all give Barbara a warm greeting.

Bstsell auth

Hello Barbara, it’s lovely to meet you today. Come and have a seat on my couch.

I’m so glad you are doing a blog tour with Celebrate Lit which is running from 26th April – 9th May, as it gives me an opportunity to get you onto my sofa for a chat.

Barbara – Well, I am delighted to be here Margaret.

I hope you don’t mind but my interviews revolve around a desert island theme.  So I want you to imagine that we are on a deserted island somewhere remote. This means we are going back to basics.

However, for my first question, I want to know..

What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?

Barbara I enjoy my own company Margaret, but I would love a working radio (with extra batteries) for music and for news of the world’s events…to stay connected to the universe in that little way.

We could let you have a wind-up radio with a solar panel Barbara, better for the environment and then you wouldn’t need batteries as the sun charges it. Perfect for a hot desert island. Just try not to get sand in it!

I know you love books..

What book would you crave to read (you already have the bible, so please pick another book)?

BarbaraJesus Always, by Sarah Young. I find the daily devotions speak to me and come with great Bible references, which on the desert island I would have plenty of time to read!

You certainly would Barbara, once you have built your shelter and fished for your supper!

Talking about food..

What food would you miss the most being on a desert island?

BarbaraThis is embarrassing, Hebrew National Hotdogs. I’m crazy for them.

Ok, so I will need to look these up when we are on the mainland again with an internet connection. But they sound delicious. I learn something new everyday!

We’ve talked about books, food and now I want to know something about your writing..

What favourite sentence do you like from your most recent published book?

Barbara –“She thought everyone had found a secret she didn’t possess, but now she knew it was no secret. God loved her, too.”

Oh yes, that realization when you understand God loves you. That is a beautiful quote Barbara, thank you.

I always love these answers..

To leave the island, you have to describe your main character in five words, can you tell me what they would be?

Barbara – Gentle spirit seeking everlasting love.

Oh so true, I remember Cassie from your first book “She who knows – the tale of the heart”, which I liked. I think readers will enjoy this sequel.

Well, there you have it, readers, I am so glad Barbara you came to meet us on my couch today. It’s been fun getting to know a little bit more about you.

Barbara Bras readers, she deserves a mighty round of applause. I hope you have a successful blog tour.

It’s GIVEAWAY time so don’t forget to read the rest of this post and then enter Barbara’s competition at the bottom of the page. 🙂

About the Author

untitled-1In 2015, Barbara Bras left her career to pursue her dream of serving God.  She believed that her first step was to share the amazing story of God’s blessings in her life. Wrapped in God’s Grace, A Life Rediscovered does so through a trio of narratives. It begins with the story of her son’s miraculous adoption and the challenging years that followed her grandparents’ remarkable survival in Armenia, and her own quest for purpose and love.  Once written, Barbara realized her life’s new purpose. Captured by St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, she views her writing as a tribute to the God who comforts and strengthens us in hardships and trials, and as her mission to encourage others.  Her first novel, She Who Knows, A Tale of the Heart, seeks to inspire and encourage. The sequel, She Who Knows No Fear:  Another Tale of the Heart, released in December 2017. Solo Deo Gloria, To God Alone Be the Glory

I love Authors Interview 20 this is Rebekah Jones

Hi friends, my couch visitor today is Rebekah Deedrick author of Presumption and Partiality who also has a GIVEAWAY for you - enjoy.

I love Authors Interview 20

Rebekah Jones

I love Authors Interview 20, this is Rebekah Jones, author of Presumption and Partiality. Her book is touring with Celebrate Lit from April 24-May 7.

Welcome, Rebekah, it is a pleasure to have you sitting on my couch today.

I’m so glad you are doing a blog tour with Celebrate Lit as it gives me an opportunity to get to know you better.

Rebekah – Thank you for inviting me, Margaret. 🙂

The desert island is awaiting you and so am I as I know this is going to be a fun interview. Are you comfortable?

Rebekah – Yes I am, very!

Let’s begin then with the first question.

What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?

Rebekah – A few chests that contain a library. A complete set of Charles Dickens; at least my favorites of Douglas Bond; J.R.R. Tolkien’s most famous works; most or all Agatha Christie mysteries since I would finally have time to read them; every C. S. Lewis book; anything about Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; a few George MacDonald stories; Alice in Wonderland would remind me of adventure in foreign parts; and John Bunyan’s “A Pilgrim’s Progress.” I’m assuming my Bible washed up with me so that I wouldn’t be needing another.

Lol, I have never had anyone ask for a library before. It sounds like you are going to stay on the island for a long time! What a passion you have for reading. Yes, indeed the Bible is included.

Apart from food for your mind ..

What food would you miss the most being on a desert island?

Rebekah – Probably ice cream. Heath Ice Cream. Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Or Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. Or Coffee Ice Cream. Honestly, probably almost any ice cream.

Now you are talking, I love ice cream too. I think my favourite is Chocolate Mint. Although I am happy for Vanilla too. You would have to stop reading and find your way off the island for an ice cream though.

On one of your travels exploring the island..

You find a rowing boat hidden in a cave, what name would you paint on it and why?

Rebekah – I would almost certainly spend far too much time trying to decide on a name. Name it Nickleby after one of my favorite Dicken’s characters? The Hotspur to remind me of Horatio Hornblower’s adventures? The Sherlock Holmes just sounds pretentious, and The Baker Street is very odd. Should I name it Consider Joy to remind me of a Biblical passage? In the end, I’d likely choose the latter; or The Ebenezer Scrooge – because a boat of that name would honestly sound splendid.

So many names to choose from Rebekah, but I like Consider Joy. It will help you reflect on the all things joyful.

I love asking this question..

On the island you have time to think, can you tell me why you decided to become a writer?

Rebekah – Influence to become a writer came from several directions. At two, I remember drawing pictures to create “books.” At three and four, I started adding pretend “words” to said books. I can clearly recall some of the stories that I imagined were blossoming on the page amidst the squiggles of crayon and colored pencil. Before I could fully read and spell, I started writing a story and several “poems” with the words I did know. From then on, I never stopped.

By age nine, I knew that I wanted to be an author; it became an actual goal. I wanted to share the stories in my head. I wanted to create an art form with words, transport a reader to a place in my imagination. Share with others my deep love of literature, the beauty of words, and the music of sentence, paragraph, and page. And, as I grew older, I wanted to use this medium to encourage others in the LORD and bring Him glory.

Wow, what a wonderful insight into your given gift from God. I am so glad you listened and shared your ideas, by putting them on paper for us all to read.

So are you a hot or cold person?

The desert island is very hot, do you like hot or cold weather and which helps you focus on your writing better?

Rebekah – I prefer hot weather, so this island is lovely. As long as I don’t run out of water. Cold weather merely distracts me, as I try not to shiver, think about the cold, keep my blankets in place, not lose my shawl, and wish I had my own personal fireplace. Give me shade, some water, and paper with a pen, and I shall be good to go!

Well, it’s certainly warm on the island with plenty of fresh water from the waterfall and little springs dotted about. I can see you will be comfortable to continue with your writing. We can all imagine what wonderful story the island will lead you to write. Perhaps you will tell us next time we meet!

Sadly that is all the time we have on the couch. I have really enjoyed our time together Rebekah.  Thank you and I hope you have a successful blog tour.

Rebekah – It has been fun! Thank you for having me!

A big round of applause readers for Rebekah everyone.

I love Authors Interview 20 was brought to you by Margaret Kazmierczak, producer of alternative interviews.

About the Book

Presumption and partialityTitle: Presumption and Partiality

Author: Rebekah Jones

Genre: Historical Christian Fiction

Release Date: November 27, 2017

Among the cotton fields and farmland of Gilbert, Arizona in the early years of the Great Depression, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey live a simple, but happy life with their five daughters on a cotton farm. When the wealthy Richard Buchanan moves to town, bringing his family, a friend, and a desire to learn about cotton, Matilda Bailey is convinced that he is the perfect candidate to marry her eldest daughter, Alice.

Richard is cheerful, friendly, and likable. His friend Sidney Dennison doesn’t make such a good impression. Eloise Bailey decides he’s arrogant and self-conceited, but when Raymond Wolfe comes to town, accusing Sidney of dishonorable and treacherous conduct, Eloise is angered at the injustice of the situation.

When the Buchanan household leaves town, Alice must turn to the Lord and face, perhaps, her most difficult test in trust, while Eloise takes a trip to visit her friend and may well discover a web of deceit that she doesn’t really want to believe exists.

Guest Post from Rebekah Jones

Why is he a Navajo?

I’ve had more than one person ask me why I chose to make Sidney Dennison, the “Mr. Darcy” of my novel Presumption and Partiality, a Navajo Indian.

When I commenced planning and research for placing a retelling of Pride and Prejudice in the 1930’s United States, I found myself drawn to the desert of Arizona rather early on. Specifically, the tiny farm town of Gilbert. I knew, however, that few rich people lived in that area; certainly not enough to create social rifts large enough to recreate the social differences of the original novel.

The light bulb moment

I experimented in my head with a few different ideas, but the idea of Sidney as a Native American came to me one day and just clicked. I knew that I couldn’t fully pull off a Navajo who lived on the reservations. As much as I researched, I couldn’t quite get the feel. Yet, a man whose ancestry included a white man as a grandfather, who lived outside the reservations, though with relatives who clung to some of the old traditions, I thought I could do.

I used to wish I were an Indian, in part because I wanted to have great tracking skills, live in a tee-pee, possess superb bow and arrow abilities, and I wanted to ride a horse. True, most of that did not enter a 1930’s novel, despite my Navajo cowboy, because the eras are different. Though, Sidney did get a horse. Or technically, several.

A silent strong hero

Further, something about the silent, good-looking Indian appealed to me, much as I tend to shy away from writing about handsome and beautiful people, since they feel so common in fiction. The minute I began imagining the man with his Navajo ancestry, he just felt perfect.

By the end, Sidney turned out to be one of my favorite characters. (I can’t ever pick just one in my novels.) I think I made a good choice and I hope my readers will agree!

I love authors Interview 19

Hi, friends, today on the couch I have Dana Mentink author of Treacherous Trails and her GIVEAWAY - enjoy.

Welcome to I love Authors Interview 19. Today on the couch I have Dana Mentink, author of Treacherous Trails, which is currently on tour with Celebrate Lit from 12th – 25th April. Let’s all give Dana a warm greeting.

Treacherous Trails

Hi Dana. It is a pleasure to have you sitting on my couch today.

Dana – Thank you for inviting me.

I’m so glad you are doing a blog tour with Celebrate Lit as it gives me an opportunity to get to know you better.

As you lean back on the couch I want you to imagine that we are on a desert island. No iPhones, internet or noisy neighbours just the calm of the sea.

In these surroundings..

Who would you like to be marooned on the island with and why?

Dana – I am thinking MacGyver would be a good choice. He’s got skills. He can make us a hibachi grill out of a paper clip.

Ok Dana, so I am not familiar with MacGyver, I’m going to google this character – oops I can’t as we are on a desert island with no internet 😀 but if he can make a hibachi grill out of a paper clip he sounds awesome. I get a sense that this interview is going to be fun!

Dare I ask this question?

What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?

Dana – We’re all going to get along so much better if an espresso machine washes up in working order!

I told you Dana was going to be trouble, next you’ll be asking for a supply of electricity!

Uh Oh, here we go..

You are allowed to invite another person to stay with you on the desert island, which of your characters would you choose and why?

I’d pick Owen Thorn because he’s really physically fit (a cowboy Marine, people) and he could slap up a shack in no time. He’s also adorable, so that would be helpful, too.

I’m beginning to sense a theme here Dana! Sounds like you will have them organised in no time!

On to my next question

I know you like writing but do you have another passion?

Dana – I’m a third-grade teacher, which means I probably washed up on this island with a stapler, five paperclips, a snack, six band-aids and a confiscated fidget spinner in my pockets which MacGyver will be very excited about, I’m sure.

Haha, you can’t be prepared enough! Oh, the joys of seven to eight-year-olds. However, it sounds like you are in your element teaching them. I wonder what MacGyver will make with the fidget spinner?

And now my final question..

The desert island is very hot, do you like hot or cold weather and which helps you focus on your writing better?

Dana – I live in Northern, CA. We are not a sturdy breed of people here. That means if it drops below 50 degrees, we all fold up like umbrellas and whine. Seriously. I write early in the morning and I’m wearing a hoodie, ‘Heat Saver’ socks, slippers and fuzzy pyjamas. When is it gonna be spring, anyway?

So the hot weather might suit you, Dana. I’m sure MacGyver and Owen will give you some inspiration on the island. Think of all the time you would have to write while they are competing to make you the perfect shack!

Dana, I can’t believe that is all we have time for. I’ve enjoyed our time together on the couch today. I love your sense of humour. Here’s hoping your tour is successful.

Put your hands together for Dana Mentink, yes, lots of applause, keep it going. 🙂

We have as usual a GIVEAWAY at the end of the post so please remember to enter.

Julie profile

Welcome to I love Authors Interview 18. Today we have the pleasure of meeting Julie. E. Grace, author of A Walk with Heavenly Spirits which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from 3rd-6th April. Let’s all give Julie a warm greeting.

A Walk with Heavenly Spirits

Hi  Julie, it is a pleasure to have you sitting on my couch today.

I’m so glad you are doing a blog tour with Celebrate Lit as it gives me an opportunity to get to know you better.

Julie – Thank you, Margaret, the pleasure is mine.

Comfy?

Julie – Yes thank you.

I like to do things a little differently to the usual interviews. So now I want you to imagine that we are on a desert island. The sea lapping on the shores and not a ship in sight.

For my first question, if you can take your eyes away from the breathtaking scenery..

What book would you crave to read (you already have the bible, so please pick another book)?

Julie – I would want it to be a book on survival skills so I could make the best out of the situation.  It would be a shock at first not knowing what to expect. I would need to take care of my everyday needs until help came. Knowledge is key.

I can see that you have a practical side Julie, what a great choice. And I like the fact that you would want to make the best out of the situation. You are one cool lady.

This means then that you are likely to explore.

As it happens you find a rowing boat hidden in a cave, what name would you paint on it and why?

Julie – I would paint “FAITH” on it.  To remind me each time I looked at it, to have faith in God to sustain me through the circumstances. I would remember that God is a God of miracles and pray for him to give me the strength I needed to endure until I could be rescued.

How right you are, God is a God of miracles and waiting for his rescue will require faith. That is an apt name to be sure and a great way to remind yourself of His faithfulness.

So while you are waiting ..

I know you like writing but do you have another passion?

Julie – I have always been interested in art since I was a young child. My mother gave me oil painting kits for Christmas and it evolved from there.  I am self-taught in oils and pastels and try to balance my love of art with my passion for writing.  I paint mainly landscapes.

A few years ago,  I branched out into digital art.  Art is another form of expression that gives me great joy.

I agree Julie art is a wonderful form of expression. As a concession, I will allow you to have your art materials so that you can paint.

On to the next question Julie

The desert island is very hot, do you like hot or cold weather and which helps you focus on your writing better?

Julie – I’m not a hot weather person.  My favorite time of the year is Spring when everything is new again and the temperatures are in the 70’s.  Winter time with the snow is beautiful but during really cold periods, I find myself indoors at my desk typing away on a novel while sipping on a cup of tea or hot chocolate.  It becomes my most productive time as far as writing is concerned.

Oh, Spring is a favourite of mine too Julie, all the new beginnings.

Sadly this is my final question..

If you could be one of your characters which would it be and why?

Julie – It would be Allison.   The part of Allison’s journey that I would love to experience,  is her visits by Heavenly Spirits.  To be able to travel in time and experience the supernatural would be awesome.

Wouldn’t it just. You have left me intrigued Julia. This has been a pleasant desert island visit on my couch today. Thank you, Julia, for sharing with us.

Yes give a round of applause for Julie E. Grace and don’t forget to look out for her book.

Julie has also included a GIVEAWAY today, which you will find at the bottom of my post. Click on the code for a chance to win.

Guest Post from J.E. Grace

My inspiration for writing A Walk with Heavenly Spirits:
I was thinking about a Christmas Carol and the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future one day. I’m a Christian author, so I thought, why not use Heavenly Spirits to enlighten a person who has lost their way. It just evolved from there. I did a lot of praying for direction during my writing process and consulting God’s word along the way. God I felt was giving me the inspiration to write it. As a result, I found myself getting very emotional while writing certain parts of the book which is something I had never experienced before with any of my other novels. I was feeling the characters pain and /or joy at times.
My purpose for the story was to get the message across, that we are all broken, but God uses the broken for great things. Within the story, Allison’s one decision to finally follow the path God intended for her, not only changes her life but the lives of the all the people who come to know her.
