Secrets

My secret? Do you remember the adverts that start with this phrase and end up with a miraculous conclusion?  All you need is some expensive cream, and all your wrinkles will disappear. Yeah right!

Six secrets for helping you lose weight
My secret? I don’t use any face cream!
  • When my kids were babies, I only used Vaseline for their bottoms, and they were always rash free – it was cheap and cheerful.
  • Popular advertising at the time told me that I needed Sudacream to produce the perfect result.
  • Did I succumb – not on your nelly, I knew what worked and stuck to my guns.
Weight I have news for you.

I hit a high spot this week – yes that is right, and I am very proud of myself.

Time marches on too quickly

Is it me or are the days rolling into one – Lettuce see, is it Thursday or Friday? Are you serious, it can’t be Friday? I have lost a day! This post ought to have been out earlier; I do apologize.

Six life secrets

One
  • Be kind to yourself – if you have been unhappy with your image for some time looking at the reasons why can help.

Having been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue and given a tool kit to help myself on the long road to recovery, it finally dawned on me that I was stopping my progress. How many ways can you say “I can’t.”  Well, I have a Masters in this phrase. “I can’t do it now”, “I can’t do that because of my knees, neck, shoulders, back etc. hurt.” I can’t because there is an “e” in the month. “I can’t lose weight until x,y,z happens.”All my excuses just bound me to my bed or the house.

Two
  • Decide to believe in yourself – Only you can change yourself.

Having made the decision that I can change, the next step involves belief. I had to regularly tell myself “I can do this” to halt the can’t. Therefore you deserve your own belief. That beautiful face looking back at you deserves love and affirmation. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Three
  • Take control – nobody can do this for you.

If you are taking medication that prevents weight loss or makes you put on weight then taking control is not easy. However, for the rest of us, this is a crucial step. For me, nothing happened until I accepted that I needed to change my life.

Four
  • Put your decision into action.

Yes, I have decided in the past to change, to take control only to fall flat on my face in my failure. I ticked off yet another diet and slouched around. So what has changed this time? The determination to show myself that I am important, I do matter, and I have not finished living yet. There is so much to look forward to, climbing the stairs without my knees giving way, running after the cat, flicking my adult/teens ears when they are out of line and wearing that size 12 pair of jeans again!

Five
  • Join a group – doing something new requires support.

Having decided to change my image and power on to a healthier life style, I signed up for a local Slimming World group. Each week is a laugh, there are some comedians and chameleons, and everyone is encouraging. You feel hugged for trying, and it helps you to keep those “I can’t” lies from taking back control. Not being alone on this journey is important.

Six
  • Don’t flog yourself for not losing the pounds.

The important lesson I have learned is to take myself with a pinch of salt. I have decided to eat that healthy fruit and veg as it takes away the fog and fat. The lean meat no longer dripped in oil tastes fantastic with a side of sweet potato chips and salad. Oh that weigh-in, will I or won’t I have lost a pound or two. If I have tried my best then slowly and surely the changes will happen.

Back to the beginning

Remember “All you need is some expensive cream, and all your wrinkles will disappear. ” I may still have my lines, but I don’t need expensive wares and adverts telling me how to alter my lifestyle. Have I succumbed – not on your nelly, I know what works and will stick to my guns because I am worth it.

Last weeks weigh-in

Lettuce and I are chuffed to say that I received my stone award this week and in total, I have lost 15lbs. Added to that I also received the slimmer of the week award. Whoop whoop. I am rather pleased!

What achievement did you accomplish this week?

Author: Margaret Kazmierczak

For over fifty years I have laughed and cried through my life – it has been exciting, exhausting, emotional, challenging and infuriating. No one gave me a map or a ‘How to get out of stressful situations’ manual, to help me on my journey. Instead, it has been God and me, His Word and my mistakes. So let’s cut to the chase, I am a wife and mother of three almost adult children! I live in the South of England and dislike the rainy climate. Yes, it looks green but so does my face with little sunshine! With many occupations under my belt, I now spend my time writing – for my blog which includes book reviews, interviews some humorous pieces and a book called "How to Make Victoria Sponge." I also have some devotionals in a multi-author book "Heartwings Devotional. My life is hectic; I am disorganised, and God continually sorts me out. I hope my words bring you hope, comfort and laughter as I sit here in my dining room praying for inspiration and for the cat to get off my laptop!

  1. Thanks for the good advice, Margaret. You are 100 percent correct. I may even look up Slimming World, although I don’t know if it exists in the USA. Sounds wonderful, though, and I am so happy for your success. My best to you and Lettuce this week–Tally ho!
