I love Authors Interview 14

This is Lynn U. Watson

Welcome to “I love Authors Interview 14 ” On my couch today I have a lovely lady called Lynn U. Watson.  Lynn is the author of The Essense of Joy which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from 3rd-16th MarchLet’s all give Lynn a warm greeting.

Thank you so much for being here today Lynn.

It’s a pleasure, Margaret, thanks for inviting me. I gather we have to go on a trip to a desert island, I’m looking forward to that.

I’m glad you’re going to humour me, Lynn!

Is everyone ready? – shrieks of “get on with it” echo around the room – You are, well let’s get this show on the road.

My first question is..

Who would you like to be marooned on the island with and why?

Lynn – We’ve sailed, breezed, driven, walked, laughed, cried, jumped, trudged, or played through so many adventures and misadventures together. No need to even give this a second thought: my friend Robin would be the one to accompany me to this unanticipated and, most likely, unpredictable beach party! I’ll add here, Robin is my “writer’s right arm and hand,” too. Besides a beloved friend and prayer warrior, she digs up wonderful research resources, tells me what works and what doesn’t, and always adds creative sparks to any work in progress.

What a fabulous friend to have Lynn. Robin sounds like a precious treasure to keep. I’m not surprised you chose her. Not sure it will be a beach party with shelters to build and food to catch, but then again the desert island experience is there for the taking!

I can see you’re going to be a bit of a handful! On to the next question..

What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?

Lynn – It appears previous shipwrecked authors built roads. A bright red convertible sports car to zip around the island — Absolutely perfect!!

That’s put the sports car amongst the sharks! Okkkayyeee. I wasn’t expecting that answer!

I’m not sure we can stretch to a sports car, Lynn. A toy one maybe. (Has someone been renting out my desert island to road contractors – you, see me later. What a cheek!)

Dare I ask the next question..?

You find a rowing boat in a cave, what name would you paint on it and why?

Lynn – Cinnamah-Brosia. She hosts my inspirational collections at her Coffee Cottage in the small fictitious town of Pearlville, MO. She and her friends share their own stories of challenges, heartaches, joys, and triumphs in each chapter of The Essence of Joy: Filling Your Heart with the Essence of Jesus Nativity and the first volume in the collection, The Essence of Courage: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Solomon’s Locked Garden and in Your Heart.

Her given name is Cinnamon. Her Gram added the “ah” — Hebrew for “of God.” Brosia was her childhood word for a favorite food — her Gram’s Ambrosia — obviously, full of fruit!

So — The Goodness of God and Full of Fruit.

Naming the boat Cinnamah-Brosia brings her to life in a whole new setting. Besides, I’m sure she brought a coffee maker. You may find some of our escapades showing up in the next volume of her collection, The Essence of Humility: Live and Love Like Jesus.

It sounds like you have taken time to think about this name Lynn. I love the meaning and it obviously resonates with you. From this glimpse, your book seems appealing to the senses. I think I can smell coffee!

Taking a stroll around the island, rather than driving your sports car..

You find a piece of paper with a pencil left behind from the previous Author who was shipwrecked here, what encouraging message would you leave for the next cast away?

Lynn – This meme features a favorite quote from my latest book. I pray it offers great encouragement to the next cast away.

Lynn Wilson talks about her book The essence of Joy
When you believe your life or that of a loved one has been flipped upside down and inside out, counting for little of value, God’s economy reimagines and transforms the most unslightly situations into beautiful forevers.

Now there’s a verse to ponder on. It reminds me of 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Your time on the desert island is coming to an end but before it does..

To leave the island you have to describe your main character in five words, can you tell me what they would be?

Old-Soul (She’s endured much, living victoriously in maturity and faith beyond her years)

I hope these keywords encourage you to pick up a copy of The Essence of Joy. And on that note readers, we are going to say goodbye to Lynn. You’ve been a joy to interview and I hope you have a successful blog tour. Please give Lynn a big round of applause.

Lynn – Thank you, Margaret, it’s been great.

  • Many favorite holiday scents like cinnamon, citrus, and cinnamon are found in the Bible?
  • There is a rich heart connection attached to many of the plant essences found in Scripture?
  • Myrrh is such an important essence, we can follow its trail from Genesis to Revelation with many significant stops along the way?
  • Women of the Bible have personal encounters with God bringing aromas of His love and joy into their lives?
  • Palm branches are an important part of Biblical celebrations beginning in Genesis and ending in the ultimate beach party around the Crystal Sea? (Christmas at the beach, anyone?)

In The Essence of Joy, you’ll meet women of the Bible and contemporary women like you and me who will encourage you to discover the refreshing essence of a life lived in the presence of Jesus. Let JOY fill your heart with the aromas of His nativity.

Guest Post from Lynn Watson

A walk down memory Lane

A walk down memory lane on a snowy day (today) transported my thoughts to a Christmas shop our children and I visited every year. Open only for the holiday season, rich aromas reached out and drew you into this wonderland. The owners filled the space with unique treasures. A few we chose years ago remain prized members of my Christmas favorites close to four decades later.

Essential Oils

My debut encounter with essential oils came many years later. I loved their aromas (including many of those Christmas scents) and studied their aromatic influences and potential benefits. Bible verses jumped to life in new ways. God created all plants and inspired the Biblical authors to include many. The desire to share my discoveries burned in my heart, until God finally released me to publish The Essence of Courage in December 2016. Before I completed the devotional based on Solomon’s locked garden in Song of Solomon 4:12-15, God reminded me just how many aromas and tastes of the Christmas season are found in the pages of His word, too.

Cinnamon, cedarwood, mint, citrus, myrrh, frankincense, rose, and figs are found in the pages of Scripture. So, are palms. They may not appear Christmasy unless you favor a tropical holiday, but they are an integral part of celebration in the Bible. The Essence of Joy offers discoveries of connections of all this plant life to Jesus’ nativity.

A book with a difference

Looking back a dozen years to my first not-quite-inspired imaginings of a devotional book with aromatic offerings, I’m grateful God chose different timing. He presented me an unusual format for the collection. — one of those things easier experienced than explained. Contemporary women’s very real stories (fictionalized and often combined to create anonymity), stories from very real women living on the pages of Scripture, and a focused look at the botanical and its aromas, flavors, and essences as found in the Bible, are topped off with icing on the cake: ‘Fun Facts” and ‘Your Turn’ to invite the reader to more than read – to participate.

Scriptures in essence

In The Essence of Joy you’ll encounter Scriptures in ways you had not considered before. Your faith will be enriched and stretched as you relate to the ancient women of the Bible and those that may be your next door neighbor today. You’ll be encouraged to breathe in the aromas of Jesus’ nativity, sample goodies from The Coffee Cottage’s specials of the day, and tune in to musical selections welcoming you into a posture of worship. I’m praying you are filled with His joy!

NOTE: Cinnamah-Brosia, the owner of The Coffee Cottage in the fictional stories asks readers at the very beginning of the book to be sure to read the introductory material. It helps set the stage for the book’s character and personality.

For over fifty years I have laughed and cried through my life – it has been exciting, exhausting, emotional, challenging and infuriating. No one gave me a map or a ‘How to get out of stressful situations’ manual, to help me on my journey. Instead, it has been God and me, His Word and my mistakes. So let’s cut to the chase, I am a wife and mother of three almost adult children! I live in the South of England and dislike the rainy climate. Yes, it looks green but so does my face with little sunshine! With many occupations under my belt, I now spend my time writing – for my blog which includes book reviews, interviews some humorous pieces and a book called "How to Make Victoria Sponge." I also have some devotionals in a multi-author book "Heartwings Devotional. My life is hectic; I am disorganised, and God continually sorts me out. I hope my words bring you hope, comfort and laughter as I sit here in my dining room praying for inspiration and for the cat to get off my laptop!

  1. Margaret, I just loved your interview with Lynn. She sounds like she has a great since of humor. Her stories are an inspiration and thought provoking. I too am a lover of essential oils. We use them for lots of things, calming, medications, insect repellents and on and on. Her description of her biblical uses has inspired me to get her book.
I always enjoy your interviews. Thank you for bringing authors to your couch and sharing their stories with us.
