I love Authors Interview 23
Today on I love Authors Interview 23 I would like to welcome Joan Deneve, author of Loving Brock which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from May 3rd – 16th. You can purchase the book here.
It’s a pleasure to have you sitting on my couch today Joan. Let’s show Joan a warm greeting.
Joan – Thank you. I’m thrilled to be here.
I know there are lots of interviewers out there that follow a certain format, however, I like to be unique in my questions and eek out little-known gems from my authors. I hope you are happy with that?
Joan – It sounds fun.
Let’s begin then.
Now I want you to imagine that we are on a desert island. This means we are going back to basics.
Joan, you can choose..
Who would you like to be marooned on the island with and why?
Joan – Hmm. Probably Bear Grylls because he’d figure out a way to make sure we survive. (But I would hope he wouldn’t make me drink my own pee!)
Oh, I agree that is gross. However, I suppose you would do anything to survive even if it meant drinking your own pee to stop yourself from getting dehydrated. He would be a fascinating companion though!
Bear Grylls gives you a day off from foraging for food..
What book would you crave to read (you already have the bible, so please pick another book)?
Joan – To borrow a line from Winnie the Pooh (A.A. Milne), I’d need a “sustaining book, one that would comfort a wedged bear in great tightness…” Or in my case, some kind of motivational, never-give-up kind of book.
I love Winnie the Pooh, A.A Milne is so inspirational in his writing. I don’t think you could go wrong with The Poetry of A.A Milne.
From A.A. Milne,
So wherever I am, there’s always Pooh,
There’s always Pooh and Me.
“What would I do?” I said to Pooh,
“If it wasn’t for you,” and Pooh said: “True,
It isn’t much fun for One, but Two
Can stick together,” says Pooh, says he.
“That’s how it is,” says Pooh.
There seems to be a theme – Bear Grylls and Winnie the Pooh! I wonder what you will choose now..
You are given one wish, but there is a clause which means you can only ask to be an animal. What creature would you like to be?
Joan – The intelligent, playful, and lovable dolphin!
I love them too Joan, good choice.
It’s about to get a bit crowded with Bear, Winnie and now..
You are allowed to invite another person to stay with you on the desert island, which of your characters would you choose and why?
Joan – Definitely Brock Whitfield. Brock is a man of faith and basically, God’s pet who gets his prayers answered in a mighty way. A good person to have around.
He sounds amazing Joan, I can see why you would favour him on the Island with you. He sounds like he a rock. I think my readers would enjoy reading about him in your book.
Sadly this is my last question..
To leave the island, you have to describe your main character in five words, can you tell me what they would be?
Joan – Brock Whitfield: Compassionate, Resolute, Humble, Selfless, Stellar.
What an accolade for your main character. Well, folks, it sounds like you’ll have to buy a copy of Loving Brock to find out more about this man of God.
Time to wrap up..
Thank you, Joan, for taking the time to share your desert island musings with us. It’s been a delight to have you on my couch for I love Authors Interview and being such a good sport. I hope you have a successful blog tour.
Joan – Thank you! This has been fun and thought-provoking!
The pleasure is all mine Joan, I have enjoyed our time together enormously.

For years, Brock Whitfield served God with joy and contentment at the mission hospital he founded in Angola.
When Joy Stockman joined their team as a surgical assistant, he found a woman whose zeal for God and heart for people equalled and in many ways surpassed his own. Before he knew it, his admiration and respect for her blossomed into love. After years of serving alone, Brock began to hope that God was giving him another chance to love and be loved in return.
A crisis arose within the family causing Brock to put his personal plans on hold. As he prayed for guidance, Brock’s faith and obedience were put to the ultimate test as God brings the perfect person into his life and then asks him to give her up.
