Spotlight Six

Spotlight Six. Today I am doing a spotlight on “Breath of Heaven” by  Alana Terry which is on tour with Celebrate Lit from June 28-July 11. Alana also has a GIVEAWAY  for you so don’t forget to enter for a chance to win.

To spotlight  Breath of Heaven, I would like to talk about some of the reviews this book has received. I hope you find this helpful in deciding to read Alana’s book. Thanks for popping by 🙂

Breath of Heaven

Breath of Heaven is rating 4-5 stars on Amazon, and it appears to be regarded as a great read to understand the life of a pastor’s wife. There is a question about whether or not a church owns a pastor and his wife like it does the house they live in. An interesting thought!

Then there are the expectations of a pastor’s wife. These expectations are commented on by several reviewers along with the victim role and gradual growth from bondage to freedom.

Some reviewers talk about Breath of Heaven being a life-changing story. A story that opens a dark tale that needs to be aired and spoken of, not hushed up behind closed doors. Alana Terry is praised for her candid portrayal of the main character, Katrina.

And finally wisdom

Can Katrina’s life as a pastor’s wife succeed as she feels out of her depth? I’ll let Grandma Lucy comment on this:  “Now tell me, if the Lord is the source of your hope and joy, why does your music sound so wounded?”

Here are a few comments to wet your appetite.

“Relevant, compelling, engrossing, and real.”

“Breath of Heaven gets 5 stars and goes on my favourites list.”

“This isn’t an easy book to read, and frankly, I suspect it was even harder to write. All the emotions. Every one of the temptations.”

“I think this is the best book of Alana’s I have ever read. I don’t have more words than that.”

If you have enjoyed Spotlight Six please comment below. I love to hear what you think.

Don’t forget about Alana’s Giveaway which you will find at the end of this post. 🙂

About the Book

Spotlight Six on Breath of Heaven by Alana Terry

Title: Breath of Heaven

Author: Alana Terry

Genre: Contemporary Christian Fiction

Release Date: December 9, 2017

She hasn’t fallen out of love with her husband. She just can’t stand his church.

Nobody told Katrina being a pastor’s wife would be easy. But she never imagined that the stress she and her husband would face from his new job could so easily destroy their marriage.

In spite of her mother’s disapproval, Katrina marries a pastor whose job immediately plucks her away from her music, her symphony, and the city life she loves and plants her in the small town of Orchard Grove, Washington.

If she knew going into her new life that she’d be sacrificing her music career for a congregation full of gossips and backbiters and that the pressure of her husband’s new job would turn him into someone she hardly recognizes anymore, she might have reconsidered marrying him in the first place.

Unfortunately, it’s too late to do anything about that now.

Or is it?

For over fifty years I have laughed and cried through my life – it has been exciting, exhausting, emotional, challenging and infuriating. No one gave me a map or a ‘How to get out of stressful situations’ manual, to help me on my journey. Instead, it has been God and me, His Word and my mistakes. So let’s cut to the chase, I am a wife and mother of three almost adult children! I live in the South of England and dislike the rainy climate. Yes, it looks green but so does my face with little sunshine! With many occupations under my belt, I now spend my time writing – for my blog which includes book reviews, interviews some humorous pieces and a book called "How to Make Victoria Sponge." I also have some devotionals in a multi-author book "Heartwings Devotional. My life is hectic; I am disorganised, and God continually sorts me out. I hope my words bring you hope, comfort and laughter as I sit here in my dining room praying for inspiration and for the cat to get off my laptop!

  1. I would love to win these books. I grew up on a preacher/pastor’s home. My son in law is my pastor now. I know it’s very stressful.

  2. I would love to read this book. I grew up in a preacher/pastors home. And now my son in law is my pastor do I know how it is. It’s a stressful lifestyle but when God’s Calling is on your life you have got to do it.

  3. Margaret, thanks for your review. I have to read this book as a Preacher’s Kid I would find Alana’s perspective worth reading! She seems to be writing from experience herself and that always makes a book worth anyone’s time!

  4. Margaret and Alana, I have not read Breathe of Heaven, but being a ministers wife also, it has perked my goodness ears. Thank goodness the days of dresses up around the neck, down to the ankles and long sleeves. You have to be able to play the piano, sing in the choir and teach Sunday school. But there are still expectations, as you well know. I would always let the ladies of each new church Know right away who I am. What you see is what you get. And most of the time that worked very well. But every once in a while, I would still come across one who still thinks she owns the pastor and his wife and their lives. lol
So, I look forward to reading your book.
Thank you both. Margaret for always having great people on your couch and Alana for great reviews.

    1. Thank you, Kathy, for popping over. I can see that you are a dab hand at being a minister’s wife. I hope you enjoy the book when you read it and of course, let Alana know what you think of it. God bless. 🙂
