I love Authors Interview 16
Welcome readers to I love Authors Interview 16. Today I have Kristen Hogrefe on my couch. Her book The Revolutionary is on tour with Celebrate Lit from 10-23 April. I am delighted that I have been allowed to interview Kristen and read her book. My review will be out on 19 April and I hope you will visit again to read it.
Now, let’s all give Kristen a warm welcome.
Kristen – Thank you so much, Margaret, it is lovely to meet you.
Thank you, Kristen. I know we are sitting on a beautiful couch, however, I would like you to imagine we are stranded on a desert island!
Kristen – This sounds fun!
Let’s get started then, Kristen.
Who would you like to be marooned on the island with and why?
Kristen – I’d pick my twin brother and his wife because they are two of my best friends. Also, with their background in the park service and wildland firefighting, I’m pretty sure we would not only survive but thrive.
I am sure you would Kristen with such helpful family. It sounds like all you would need to do is sit back and write!
For my next question, we are going to let you have something special as a treat.
What luxury would you like to have washed up on the beach?
Kristen – A large, waterproof Tervis containing an iced caramel latte would be wonderful.
I think we can arrange that, but your brother and sister-in-law might be a bit jealous so perhaps we might need to send you two more Kristen!
While we sit here basking in the sun can you tell me…
What favourite sentence do you like from your most recent published book?
Kristen – “Portia, nothing worth having is easy. You need to train if for no other reason than to prove to yourself that you can.”
I like that saying, Kristen. It is a good motto for life. I think it is similar to “I can’t do it yet”, rather than “I can’t do it.” We all need to strive for those goals.
There’s not a cloud in the sky and it is so peaceful Kristen so tell me..
I know you like writing but do you have another passion?
Kristen – I really enjoy music and have played the piano and sung in church groups since I was a teenager. Just recently, I started learning guitar, because why not? Music aside, I enjoy trying new things, especially when they involve the outdoors. This year, I went skiing for the first time and had a blast.
That’s a wonderful talent to have to be able to play the piano. I love your can-do attitude, yes why not learn to play the guitar and ski. I hope you go on to do many other interesting pursuits too. How about bungee jumping?
Oh, what a shame this is my last question, Kristen.
To leave the island, you have to describe your main character in five words, can you tell me what they would be?
Kristen – Small, brave, broken, resourceful, visionary
I am so excited about reading your book Kristen, your description of the main character is calling to me! It’s been a privilege to talk to you and I hope you have a successful tour with Celebrate Lit.
Kristen – Thank you once again, Margaret.

About the Book
Title: The Revolutionary: Liberate the Captives
Author: Kristen Hogrefe
Genre: Young Adult, Action, Adventure
Release Date: March, 2018
Freedom costs more than Portia wants to pay, but revolutions run on sacrifice … and blood.
Three months a satellite prisoner, Portia wonders if the Brotherhood has left her to die—until she plunges into the domain of an underground smuggler contacted by her brother. But her rescue comes with a price tag only she can pay, and now, she must forfeit her identity to act as a spy back in the dizzying politics of Crystal. There, she learns that her enemies want the Dome to approve mass satellite executions. No one knows why. Worse, they’re using her friend Luther, now a Court Citizen intern, to sign the short-term orders. She desperately wants to confide in Luther, but can she still trust him with the company he keeps?
Plagued by shadows and guilt for leaving her protector Gath behind on the satellite, Portia must find a way not only to rescue him and the other prisoners, but also to destroy the slave camps once and for all.
